The UK National Security Strategy was published by the Cabinet Office in March 2008. However it have not obtained practical dimension with reference to security of ports in Wales yet. According to parliamentary Welsh Affairs Committee report of November 2009 only close co-operation between all levels public institutions and private organizations could assure proper extent of Welsh ports’ security. The Committee have especially recommended the Home Office, the Wales Office, the Department for Transport, the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government (with subordinate services and institutions) activity correlation as a necessary condition of illegal undertakings elimination. Moreover interception of ports’ protection responsibility by regional authorities could be first step of widening devolution reform on matters still reserved for the UK Parliament and Government (such as national defence and security) which could give wider decisive (or even political) autonomy for Wales. But these projects still remains in theory. That is not changeable for general directions of the National Security Strategy but only detailed regulations of ‘ports policy’ prepared by the Department for Transport. Before appearing of such policy and despite urging of the Welsh Affairs Committee there are not possible any serious activities for widening the scope of Welsh port’s security.
