Minęło 10 lat od opublikowania w 2004 roku pierwszej wersji standardu IEC 61850 ”Sieci komunikacyjne i systemy w stacjach”. Standard jest obszernym i złożonym dokumentem (ponad 1500 stron), składającym się z dziesięciu części, które obejmują komunikację, modele danych (formułowanie i wymianę informacji) oraz projektowanie, konfigurację, testowanie i eksploatację. W artykule przypomniano zasady współpracy urządzeń na stacji wg IEC 61850, następnie przedstawiono ocenę stanu wdrożenia standardu, problemy związane z optymalną implementacją standardu oraz działania, które sukcesywnie rozwiązują te problemy. Artykuł zawiera również porównanie stanu implementacji w USA standardów IEC 61850 i IEEE1815 (dawniej DNP3).

Ten years have passed since the first edition of the IEC 61850 standard “Communication Networks and Systems in Substations” was published in the year 2004. The standard is an extensive and complex document (above 1500 pages) consisting of 10 parts that include communication, data models (forming and exchange of information) as well as design, configuration, testing and operation. Recalled are principles of substation devices interoperability according to the IEC 61850 and presented is an evaluation of the standard practical application status, problems connected with optimum standard implementation and actions that successively solve these problems. Presented is also a comparison between the IEC6180 and the IEEE1815 (former DNP3) standards implementation status in the USA.
