Artykuł jest statystycznym podsumowaniem 2013 roku dla grupy odkrywkowych zakładów górniczych. W nawiązaniu do lat poprzednich przedstawia informacje na temat: wydobywanych w Polsce kopalin, udzielonych koncesji, liczby nadzorowanych zakładów górniczych, stanu zagospodarowania złóż oraz struktury wydobycia i zatrudnienia. W sposób statystyczny obrazuje prowadzoną działalność górniczą oraz wskazuje główne kierunki obserwowanych zmian.

The economic slowdown in the construction and road construction industries observed in the country directly affects the reduction of their demand for construction materials and the raw materials used to manufacture them. It results in a smaller number of licences granted for mining rock raw minerals. However, as at 31.12.2013, there were 6860 open-pit mining plants in Poland, of which 4389 were actively pursuing the excavation of minerals. Most of these plants are small mines, with the annual output of up to 35,000 t and with no more than 5 employees. 1324 mines were in their liquidation phase and further 606, where the mining activity was abandoned or “temporarily suspended”, are also intended to be liquidated. Besides the licenced mining activity, there is, sadly, a so-called “mining grey market” – an illegal acquisition of minerals. Most of the cases are open-pit sand and gravel mines, the scale of this phenomenon is difficult to assess.
