Biomechanics of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)coming from mature stands. This study presents an attempt at a determination of the effect of former farmland on biomechanical stability of trees by analyzing compressive strength, bending strength and basic density of wood. Analyses were conducted on wood of Scots pine grown on twelve locations coming from mature stands growing on former farmland and forest soils. Recorded results indicate significant differences in wood properties investigated in this study between the compared groups of trees. It was found that pines grown on forest soils were characterized by significantly higher values of parameters investigated in this study. Axial variation was also observed in all the discussed properties.
