Computer engineering graphics versus geometrical bases of descriptive representations

Abstrakty
The teaching process of the geometrical bases of descriptive representations conducted (within the studying courses) in high technical schools in very many cases has been strongly restrained nowadays. People specifying the contents of the teaching syllabuses claim that in the age of a wide application of computer graphic programs conscious following of geometrical rules, which control the engineering graphics, seems not to be indispensable. Such a completely groundless opinion launched by a considerable percentage of engineers has got a strong support in the students’ environment, causing their negative attitude towards the work at mastering of the geometrical bases of descriptive representations. The authors of the paper discuss activities carried out at the Rzeszow University of Technology in the field of didactics of the geometrical bases of descriptive representations which aim at changing unfavourable students’ relation to the teaching tropics. An example of such an activity may be attempts to indicate a need of mastering rules of so - called figure axonometry which lead to producing demonstrative drafts of engineering objects. The ability of dexterous and especially free - hand drafting of such outlines is one of the most important professional skills of an engineer which skills the authors try to develop in their students.
