In the article σ-convergence for the period of 1996 - 2015 is tested. For testing of σ-convergence various characteristics of real GDP per capita recalculated according to Pur-chasing Power Parity (real GDP per capita in PPP) are calculated, namely: cross-sectional variance, cross-sectional standard deviation and cross-sectional coefficient of variation. In case of σ-convergence these characteristics decreases over time. Analyzed data base consists of thirty-one observation - thirty countries of Europe and one integration group EU 28. The results are demonstrated graphically and indicated a convergence pro-cess between years 1996 - 2008, because of decrease of coefficient of variation. In 2009 there is an increase of this coefficient, which is seen as oscillation. Based on these results, the evidence does not support the statement of continuous σ-convergence during the entire period 1996 - 2015.
