The aim of the paper is to present a review of problems related to active and semiactive control of structural vibrations with special emphasis put on the role of simulation. Depending on criteria of interest the problems of smart (intelligent, adaptive) structures can be divided into different categories to include fundamental research on the one hand, and simulations of quite sophisticated systems on the other.
