The electrochemical polishing is the finishing method based on the diminishing of the asperities height as consequenee of the process of electrochemical dissolution. Some initial experimental remarks led the authors of the present paper to the conclusion that the more intense dissolution of the asperities tips could be the result of the smaller distance between these tips and the cathode surface. A systemic analysis was made to emphasize the factors able to exert irifluence on the roughness of the surfaces finished by electrochemical polishing. A theoretical model was also elaborated to know how the distance between the electrodes affects the Ra surface roughness parameter. The experimental researches showed that the electrochemical dissolution is more intense that our theoretical model shows; a possible explanation of this effect could be the influence exerted by the greater concentration of the electric field lines on the asperities tips.
