Relational database applications are often used as kernels of computer-integrated environments for design processes. Those applications are currently developed in object-oriented programming environments and their codes are written in object programming languages. The digital product definition, created as the final result of a computer-aided design process, must be saved in the relational database and manipulated by the code of its application. Therefore it must be described both in terms of relational and object formalisms. The coupled relational and object models of the product structure, proposed in the paper, can be useful for developing relational database applications, which support the project documentation management in design processes. The logical structure of the relational model is described in terms of entities and relationships. Definitions of essential classes of the object model and their dependence on the database structure are also discussed. The both models have been used in the prototype database application developed in the Microsoft Access environment. Some issues concerning the concept of its user interface are described in the paper. It consists of two group of forms: data-bound and data-unbound ones, which refer to the relational and object model of the product structure, respectively. The use of application forms belonging to each group must comply with some consistency rules of the product definition, described briefly in the final part of the paper.
