Abstrakty
Cables used in overhead transmission lines and cable-stayed bridges are subjected to large vibrations causing fatigue damages of the cable and assemblies. Wave motion and vibration occur mainly due to vortex shedding, rivulet formation, galloping and buffeting. In the paper the problem of optimal choice of the distributed damping force suppressing the waves traveling along the cable is considered. Parametric optimization of the damping coefficient function for the given objective function - dissipation efficiency - was performed.
