The general characteristics of the technological situation in geodesy at the turn of twenty-one century and the most essential problems that nowadays influence the geodetic methods are discussed in the paper. The possible answers to some fascinating questions are tried to be given: is a technological revolution in geodesy caused by development of satellite techniques only? why the dynamic methods became most essential today? why the gravity measurements are nowadays so important and indispensable? why the permanent stations with integrated continuous services are of greatest value? what should we do in order to fulfil new technical and technological requirements? how to identify and recognise the proper information from the terribly huge information noise being registered lately by all our receptors, etc. etc. The new technological conditions in geodesy erect and initiate also a new challenge for the university geodetic departments. They have to fulfil duties in both teaching and research.
