Nowadays, one of the most developing branches of aviation technology are the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The UAVs present a real alternative for manned aircraft not only due to the lack of crew on board of the aircraft but because of low cost of aircraft's acquisition and service and high operational flexibility. Traditional observation, surveillance, intelligence missions recently have been completed by monitoring and electronic counter measure operations. In the future, analysts predict employment of UA V in combat operation both in the air to air and air to surface missions. Latest American program designated Tier confirmed this thesis. A low cost of acquisition and service makes UA V very attractive warfare especially for underdeveloped countries. In Poland recently a few similar projects are considered, unfortunately no one has been implemented. In the report a survey of recent deployment of UAVs in various military operations is presented. Attention is focused on incredible increase of modern UAVs importance in recent military operation, especially during the Gulf War and the operation in former Yugoslavia. The UAVs have been specified following their structure, propulsion system, military purposes and performance. Problems, solutions and designs related to aircraft subsystems such as: structure, propulsion system, avionics, communication, targeting and weapon systems have been closely considered. Comparison the general data and performance of European UAVs was described and a new American UAV program was outlined. The development trends and military perspectives of the UAV and combat UCA V are showed, as well.
