Among hundreds of models used all over the world for description and estimation of dispersion in the atmosphere of harmful compounds being formed during combustion, the great majority of them are the models used for point land sources of pollutants emission (e.g. smokestacks). There are also models describing dispersion of pollutants from road sources. However, there is title information about modeling the emission and dispersion of marine engines harmful exhaust gases. Therefore, there is a need to develop such models. Authors made an attempt to review some existing and commonly used models, from the point of view of their suitability for description of dispersion of pollutants emitted from marine engines. The results of the analysis are premises for conducting the research aiming at developing the models suitable for assessment of the emission and dispersion of pollutants emitted in exhaust gases by marine engines.
