Studies report that Tyre Pyrolysis Oil (TPO) derived from waste automobile tyres through Pyrolysis has similar properties to that of diesel fuel. However the cetane number of Tyre Pyrolysis Oil is lesser than diesel. Early investigations reveal that TPO blended with diesel could be used as an alternate fuel for diesel engines. The maximum TPO diesel blend concentration was 70% and the engine failed to operate satisfactorily beyond this concentration. This may be due to the inferior cetane number of TPO as compared to Diesel. The NOx and smoke were high in diesel engine while running with TPO diesel blends. The main aim of the present work is to assess the effect of using DEE in a diesel engine running on TPO, Small quantities of DEE were inducted along with air in the suction manifold and TPO was injected into the combustion chamber of a single cylinder air cooled diesel engine. The performance and emission characteristics are reported in this paper.
