Possibilities of analyzing aluminium in matrices of such media as bottoms, sludge, soils and biological samples were discussed here. Owing to the dependences of toxicity of aluminium on its chemical forms, it is necessary to use speciation analysis which makes it possible to isolate and determine individual chemical forms, including the separate determination of toxic forms. In the case of the speciation analysis of bottoms, the practical procedures of operational speciation to be found in due literature were reviewed. The contributions of individual fractions thus obtained are dependent on medium conditions (pH, redox potential, presence of organic compounds - potential complexation ligands). While discussing possibilities of analyzing aluminium in soils, attention was paid to the socalled replaceable aluminium, i.d. fractions absorbed by the root system of plants. In the investigations of aluminium forms in soils, especially monomeric forms, the effect of environmental acidifying was considered. Possibilities of analyzing aluminium in biological samples were also considered here. Owing to the necessity of learning more about the physiological activity of aluminium in living organisms, chemical, functional and kinetic speciations are in use. Aluminium forms isolated are analyzed mostly by chromatographic or electrochemical methods.
