In this paper the problem of flow control in a single connection, fast communication network is considered. A new discrete time algorithm governing the source behaviour is proposed. The algorithm ensures full link utilisation and no cell loss in the controlled virtual circuit. Consequently, the need of cell retransmission is eliminated. These favourable properties are obtained not only when the ideal source is considered, but also in the case when at a particular period of time the source cannot send data at the rate determined by the controller.
