In the latter part ofthe 20th century, knitting machines, as other machinery in the textile industry, underwent enormous modification brought about by the fast and significant progress in computerisation in various field of science and technology, including also textile industry. There appeared computer-aided machines equipped with software to support design and production processes. Special software adapted to co-operate with machines made it possible to design pattems and structures of tlat fabrics on a monitor screen, and then to transpose them onto machines by means of tloppy disks. This allowed fast and smooth setting ofmachine parameters (tension and working-in, force of knit take-up, etc.) and made it possible to automatically select needles (trouble-free pattem change on machines) and create more complex structures. Thus, the implementation of a manufacturing process by means of such machines bas become simpler and less time-eonsuming than in conventional systems, with the production capacity and quality being considerably improved.
