In the paper are presented the results of tests of twist in cotton, viscose, woollen, and bast-fibre (flax, hemp, jute) test yarns. The following methods were tested: `untwisting to parallel`; `direct counting`; and `untwisting and twisting in reverse direction` (reverse twisting). The first two methods were used to determine the real values of twist. Using the real values, were determined the optimum values of yarn pre-tension at which the values of twist obtained by the reverse-twisting method were the same as those determined by the untwisting-to-parallel and direct-counting methods.
