Influence of yarn hairiness on the yarn breakage in the weaving process

This paper presents the research results of hairiness of 5 variants of 20-tex yarn made from blends of various raw materials. The hairiness was measured by means of Shirley Yarn Hairiness Meter and Uster Tester 3. The mentioned above yarns of known quality characteristics regarding strength, extension, evenness, appearance and hairiness were processed into fabrics using them in the warp (after sizing) and weft. Warp breakage taking place in the weaving process and its connection with the level of hairiness of the yarn were analyzed. The distinct relationship of end breakage rate in the weaving process upon the level of hairiness of raw and sized yarn was not noticed.
