Waste generation in Poland is increasing, just as it is in many other European countries. Currently in developing and developed countries, the interest in municipal and industrial waste as an important source of energy and material has increased. According to the statistics focused upon the whole Poland, 1.74 billion tons of waste are landfilled and this amount increases by 135 million tones every year. This includes 125 million tones of industrial waste and about 10 million tones of municipal waste. They can be used as substitutes for nonrenewable sources of energy. This paper assesses the cost-effectiveness of the plant responsible for recovering energy from waste depending on: capital costs, ecological unit cost of energy recovering, amount of work, fixed costs, etc. In this research we present the algorithm which allows to determine the cost-effectiveness limits of energy recovery from municipal waste.
