Usability of the satellite images expert classification in soil informatlon systems

Abstrakty
The information extract about soils from the satellite image encounters many difficulties. Part of these we can attenuate through using more advanced image processing techniques. Among others: atmospheric influence, or spectral characteristics of the soils should be considered. Therefore search for better methods increasing precision of the soil units description make a sense. Knowledge-based classification which belongs to such methods can bring practical advantages in more accurate spatial distribution of the soil units. It leads to better results in the further analysis where soil data is used. In the experimental part of this paper different variant of the SPOT image expert classification with another data sources (DTM, soil agriculture maps) has been investigated. Also, the most important technology aspects of the usability of these classification results for soil database revision (on the example of dominant soil type) has been presented. On the base of many experiments, in the summary of this paper steps for the soil database updating: from classification results to revised attributes has been proposed.
