Critical speeds of rotating machine depend grossly on the properties of rotor supporting structure. The properties of rotor support result mainly from the oil film stiffness of slide bearings. In the paper presented are the results of analysis of the influence of slide bearings parameters along with the results of calculations of critical speeds and shapes of vibrations of rotors supported in such bearings. Obtained results can prove useful during the design stage of rotors with respect to modification of dynamic properties of machine through relevant modification of bearings. On the other hand, the results enable assessment of the extent in which the insufficient knowledge of slide bearings characteristics can influence the results of calculations of critical speeds of rotating machine. A sample analysis has been conducted for a typical average size turbocompressor. Investigated has been the influence of relative changes of bearings length, relative bearings clearance and mean oil temperature on critical speeds of turbocompressor.
