The operation of the modem ship electrical power engineering system is closely connected with a continuous analysis of its selected parameters. The dynamics of the processes associated with the electrical system operation affects 1he necessity of a great amount of the data processing. In the nowadays-used electrical systems, that data are usually gained by means of the local measuring instruments applied for monitoring of the respective system's parameters. The analysis of the collected data is done using traditional methods, where the experience of the engine staff, who is responsible for system operation, plays the fundamental role. Such way of a system handling is low effective. especially because of "the human factor" influence, as a rule reacting on the effects caused by specific changes in the system under consideration. In this paper, the selected solutions of the monitoring units hitherto applied in ship electrical power engineering systems, the trends in designing of the new arrangements and the exemplary application designed and realized by the authors, are presented. The basic information concerning configuration, algorithms and technical realization were shortly shown. It was pointed out for the necessity to pay more attention on power quality monitoring problems, according to the increase of the use of power electronics elements in ship systems. The advantages connected with the new technology applicatioll. enabling "on-line" system parameters monitoring and biasing specific effects of the changes in the system, and also consisting in the current data analysis result in the increased demand for dispersed measurement systems application.
