Heat Release Rate and Laminar Burning Velocity Calculation Technique with Use of Classical Methods
The main objective of the reported work was to present a calculation method used to determine a heat release rate and a laminar burning velocity. Combustion experiments with propane-air mixtures were carried out in a closed cylindrical combustion chamber. Combustion of very rich near-limit mixtures was investigated under normal gravity and microgravity conditions. On the basis of the experimental results it was possible to determine laminar burning velocity at the beginning stage of the combustion process before the flame would touch the wall of the vessel. The results achieved with this method showed that near-limit rich mixture is characterized by very low laminar burning velocity u1=2 cm/s under microgravity conditions against u1=3 cm/s under normal gravity conditions.
