The results of preliminary laboratory studies of the effectiveness of reduction of NO emission in reburning method using pulverized lignite as the reburning fuel are presented in the paper. The experimental investigations were performed in the drop-tube electrically heated furnace. The effectiveness of NO reduction on pulverized lignite and on lignite chars was investigated versus the parameters of the reburning zone (the temperature and the stoichiometry) and properties of coals. In order to separate the effects of homogeneous and heterogeneous reduction of NO the devolatilized lignite was also used. The lignite from Turów Coal Mine was used in the experiments. The obtained results of measurements showed that pulverized lignite is the very effective reburning fuel. Depending on the conditions of the experiment the resulted effectiveness of NO reduction on lignite was in the range of 40 - 80%. The comparison of the effectiveness of lignite and lignite char in reduction of NO emission showed that parent lignite is more effective reburning fuel.
