The number of large diameter HDD crossings has grown in recent years. Especially for steel pipelines a discussion about the bending radius to be used is still on going. In a workshop during the 2006 DCA congress the discussion about the HDD radii was revived. A number of projects in this category encountered difficulties during execution. In this paper a 48" steel gas pipeline installed by the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technique is discussed.
