Since June 30th 2003, the program to fight against the sea water pollution near the coast of Biarritz includes the construction of a new 1.6m diameter, 780m long outfall. It was built by Smet-Tunnelling by means of the pipe-jacking method through subsoil conditions varying between sand and rock (marl and limestone). This paper describes the project modification suggested by Smet-Tunnelling combining the civil engineering methods and the offshore techniques (sinkable TBM, drilling platform, underwater construction) to build and complete this outfall within a very short period of time. Smet-Tunnelling succeeded in suppressing the influence of a capricious sea while remaining quasi-transparent for the tourists.
