In this paper, the particular kinematics of La Hire gear is introduced as a possible solution to reduce energy loss in reciprocating engines. The mains drawback of the classical architecture is first reviewed. Then, through kinematical and dynamical developments, the advantages of La Hire gear are highlighted.
