The article presents an analysis of the nitriding creation and development as one of thermochemical treatment technologies, connected with maintenance mainly through tribology. It contains an analysis of historical originals of nitriding, the period of its intensive dissemination, a contemporary nitriding technology and directions of its development. Moreover, it presents an analysis of influence of the nitriding development on maintenance.
