The article is a recapitulation of the "reliability and safety" section of the Eight National Congress of Technical Device Maintenance. It analyses directions of further research work in the area of reliability and safety and world trends in studies into reliability. Moreover, it contains a comparative analysis of the national and foreign problems of research on reliability and safety as well as an analysis of teaching in the field of systems reliability and safety.
