Use of the Envelope Contact Factor in the Fatigue Crack Diagnosis of Helical Gears

The paper tackles the issue of diagnosing the fatigue-related defect development on the example of development of crack at the root of a tooth ia a toothed gear. Assuming that such a defect will lead to changes of the maximum values of acceleration, the measure of the defect's development has been proposed in the form of a coefficient of change of the acceleration envelope as measured on the gear's casing.
