To meet Singapore's environmental demands associated with continued economic and population growth, the Public Utilities Board sought to replace the nation's entire sanitary services infrastructure with one that can handle wastewater needs for the next 100 years. The island's new Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) is a complex and groundbreaking undertaking that surpasses the existing infrastructure in reliability, ease and economy of operation. The gravity-fed, island-wide system – with built-in growth capacity and water quality improvements – will be critical to handling Singapore's burgeoning waterfront renaissance.
