The vibrating capacitor method is a sensitive, contactless and easy-to-realize measurement method for determining the contact potential difference (CDP) between two surfaces. This method can be used for creating olfactory images for selective gas analysis by measuring the adsorption-induced work function changes of a sensor layer. The gas adsorption depends both on the surface material and the temperature. Therefore using an array of different materials on an asymmetrically heated substrate can be considered as a sensor matrix with defferent sensor characteristics at the points of different material and temperature.
