Preventive maintenance procedure is presented to improve the copper smelting process in "blister" furnace. It was shown that the process could be more efficient by applying periodic monitoring to avoid the state of "slag boiling". In the paper the algorithm of diagnostic information selection was proposed allowing for application of condition-based maintenance making the smelting process more effective
