The article is dedicated to the Leadership 2015 programme which is aiming to improve the competitiveness of shipyards within the European Union on the shipbuilding and shiprepair world market. With regard to the major role of Polish shipbuilding industry in the world market presented programme enables effective and profitable operation of companies belonging to that business sector in the long time horizon range. Conditions necessary for the execution of the Leadership 2015 programme have been presented as well as strategic directive lines in the background of the principles of the European Union economic policy included in Lisbon strategy.
