The extraction equilibrium of sulfuric acid and titanium(IV) with bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphinic acid, [PIA-8] from sulfuric acid solutions has been studied. The stoichiometry of the extracted species of titanium (IV) was determined by slope analysis method. Two extraction mechanisms for titanium (IV) with PIA-8 are observed at different ranges of acidity. The extraction proceeds by cation exchange mechanism in the range of 0.01 -0.5 M H2SO4 and the extracted species is in the TiOR^HR form while at higher acidity (11.0 - 12.5 M H2SO4) it proceeds by solvation with the extracted species as Ti(OH)3HSO4-4HR. Temperature dependence of the extraction equilibrium constants was examined to find the apparent thermodynamic functions (AH, AS and AG). The method is simple and rapid so can be used for selective extraction of Ti(IV) in presence of other metal ions. The method has been applied for analysis of the real samples.
