Crystal Structure and Magnetic Property of a Two-Dimensional Copper(II) Complex with Dual EO- and Single EE-Azide Bridges

A novel two-di men sional cop per com plex con nected by dual EO- and sin gle EE-azide bridges, [Cu(AMP)(mi1,1-N3)(mi1,3-N3)]n (1) (AMP = 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine), has been syn the sized and characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray determination. Each Cu atom is six-coordinate in an octahedral configuration in - volving two N atoms of AMP ligand and four N atoms from four azide bridges. The N atom in EO-azide bridge occupies equatorial plane in one Cu(II) center and axial position in the other Cu(II) center. The Jahn-Teller effect on the octahedral geometry of Cu(II) plays a prominent role in length en ing the Cu-N distances in axial position. Magnetic susceptibility has been investigated and reveals that azides mediate antiferromagnetic interactions with J = –16.9 cm–1 and J'= –0.83 cm–1, respectively for EO and EE bridges.
