Abstrakty
Present study proposes to improvement of the efficiency of an Otto engine, by the application of a catalyst, substantial increase of the compression ratio and the use of a lean mixture. The concept proposed for catalytic aided ignition and combustion consists in the use of a prechamber, with a catalytic insert, as an integral part of the combustion system. The prechamber comprises of no moving elements and is fed with the same flammable mixture as the main combustion chamber. The development of catalyst-aided ignition and combustion in four-cylinder engine showed an efficiency increase of up to 20 % and a pollution reduction of the combustion gases. A special test stand to study the influence of the temperature and the flow velocity on the catalytic properties of different materials and fuels has been applied. A method for producing ceramic catalysts based on combustion synthesis has been developed.
