Abstrakty
A series of carbon-supported ruthenium catalysts were prepared and tested in the reaction of CO methanation, with the reaction mixtures characterized by very high H2-to-CO ratios. The effect of Ru particle size on the reaction rate was examined, using large surface area graphitized carbon of high purity as a support for the metal. The kinetic studies of methanation combined with chemisorption experiments have shown that the surfacebased reaction rate expressed as a turn-over frequency TOF is controlled by the size of ruthenium particles and is the higher the larger the Ru particles are: an about six-fold increase in Ru crystal diameter (from 1 to 6 nm) results in almost a 20-fold increase in (TOF).
