A concept of a new criterion parameter for evaluation of internal combustion engine plain bearing fatigue properties is presented in the paper. The concept is based on assumption that a variable hydrodynamic pressure in the oil film is a main dynamic load component which brings about critical values of tangential stress in alloy lining of the bearing. The idea of bearing fatigue research methodology comprises the stress calculation methods and experimental investigation of bearing bushes under condition of full lubrication. The objective of the suggested procedure is an improvement in comparability of the results of experimental fatigue tests carried out on various bearing dynamic rigs by evaluating the stress values leading to fatigue in the bearing layers.
