An attempt to estimate the O-ring rubber material deformation

In this paper some estimation of the O-ring gasket deformation made of rubber material under external pressure and with surface friction influences have been done. Based on the special seals design requirements as well as on the Mooney-Rivlin model characterising the elastic behaviour of the O-ring material, the ANSYS programme together with finite-element stress analysis, and computer modelling for calculation and description of the deformation and stress phenomena have been presented. It has been stated that the application of finite-element stress analysis for deformation of gaskets made of rubber elastic materials can be useful in variety of seal design for many industrial processes. When used to prevent or minimise leakage of a fluid through mechanical clearances in either the static or dynamic state, the special zone treatment of the Bielajev's points can also be pointed out and concerned.
