Following changes in the European driving cycle (deleting the 40 second idle post start-up phase), and in comparison to US FTP 75 cycle, an analysis of the influence of SI (spark-ignition) engine cold start and warm-up phases on emissions is presented in the paper. The results of emission tests for CO, NOX, HC and CO2 achieved during tests performed on a chassis dynamometer following current: ECE+EUDC and future: NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) procedures using the bag analysis method, are presented and discussed. In addition, the technologies aimed at reducing the emission levels of CO2, HC and NOX after cold start has been discussed.
