Preparation of transition metal doped TiO2/Ti electrodes, for perspective application in photocatalytic solar energy transformation processes, by sintering TiO2-cov ered Ti sheets with the transition metal oxides, dispersed at the surface was investigated. Oxides of V, Mo, Cr, Mn and Nb were used. Only in the case of V2O5 and MoO3 high coverage by stable species of transition metal on the surface of TiO2/Ti was obtained. In both cases doping of surface layer of TiO2 occurred. Niobium did not create the surface states in the band gap of TiO2 at the conditions of the experiments. Sintering with chromium(III) and manganese(IV) oxide led to the creation of surface states in the band gap of TiO2, but these surface states mediated the reaction of TiO2 self-dis solution during the anodic polarization, which led to losing the doping element from the surface.
