The synthesis of a new chiral 2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1' - binaphthyl derivative containing protected hydroxyl groups and bithiophene-functionalities is described. The cross-coupling Pd-catalyzed reaction of suitably functionalized substrates under Negishi reaction conditions constitutes the most effective protocol for preparation of rac-6,6'- bis(5- methyl- 2,2'-bithiophen-5'-yl)-2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl 5.
