W artykule opisano konsekwencje poprawy relacji masy własnej do mocy spalinowego silnika kolejowego poprzez zwiększenie jego obrotów znamionowych, formulując zależność mocy uzyskanej z cylindra od tych obrotów. Wykazano ponadto wpływ: p e, C śr tłoka oraz S/d na wartość N e/i. Analiza w/w zależności pozwoliła na ocenę skutku przyjętych obrotów znamionowych dla uktadu silnika przy określonej mocy.

The paper describes consequences of the improvement of mass-output ratio of the diesel engine for railway application by means of an increase of its rated speed. The formula of the output per cylinder as a function of rated speed is derived. An im-pact of mean effective pressure, mean piston velocity and stroke to diameter ratio on the output to number of cylinders ratio is shown. Analysis of above mentioned relations makes it possible to evaluate the influence of adopted rated speed on engine configuration at given output.
