This paper describes a study conducted in order to validate in practice the HEPAR II system for diagnosis of liver disorders. HEPAR II's performance is compared against the performance of general practitioners with typically 1-2 years of clinical experience on the randomly selected patient cases with histopathologically confirmed diagnosis. HEPAR II performed on average better than physicians (p<0.03). The study has also tested the effect on system's suggestions on the ultimate diagnosis indicated by the physicians. Here also the results were encouraging: system's advice improved the ultimate diagnosis (p<0.01).
