W pracy przedstawiono podstawowe pojęcia dotyczące nowej dziedziny techniki, jaką jest monitorowanie spójności konstrukcji (ang. Structural Health Monitoring - SHM). Przedstawiono podstawowe zadania i metody tam stosowane. W szczególności zwrócono uwagę na nową metodę SHM - wibrotermografię. Przedstawiono podstawy teoretyczne tej metody oraz przykład zastosowania. Jak wykazano w pracy, prezentowana metoda jest bardzo czuła na zmiany stanu materiału konstrukcji.

In the paper Structural Health Monitoring is introduced as a new area of interdisciplinary testing of structural integrity of mechanical systems. The basic tasks and methods are presented. The considerations are focused on new methods in SHM area, named vibrothermography. The theoretical basis and examples of applications. The method is very sensitive for material parameters changes due to occurrence of structural damages.
