The complex characterisation of the technical status of the underground tanks based on the local expert's report only is a very difficult task, even for numerous strip pits. The expert opinion regarding Świnoujście liquid fuel oils base was possible only due to a modernisation and preparation for the future exploitation. Based upon expert's opinion of the technical status and after carrying out of a modernisation project the overhaul of the tanks was performed. The technical status of the tanks and methodology of the performance of the modernisation were currently monitored. This paper reports on the assessment of the technical status of the steel plating: the blankets and the bottoms of the 10 tanks for liquid fuel. The tanks were made from the steel and reinforced concrete and exploited over 60 years. After such long period of exploiting of these tanks, which average capacity was about 65 300 m3, several serious defects of steel plating were found in two tanks. During the overhaul and cleaning of the tanks some not registered earlier traces of fuel leakage through the local passage pits and rivet cargo contacts on the blankets and the bottoms of the tanks. This have had an influence on the repair works range, and procedure of these works is described in this paper.

Kompleksowe określenie stanu technicznego zbiorników podziemnych na podstawie wizji lokalnej, nawet przy wykonaniu dużej liczby odkrywek, jest sprawą niezwykle trudną. Oględziny podziemnych zbiorników bazy paliw płynnych w Świnoujściu były możliwe z uwagi na modernizację i przygotowanie ich do ponownej eksploatacji. Po dokonaniu gruntownej oceny stanu technicznego oraz wykonaniu projektu modernizacji przystąpiono do naprawy zbiorników, podczas której na bieżąco ustalano stan techniczny zbiorników i metodykę prowadzenia prac modernizacyjnych. W artykule przedstawiono ocenę stanu technicznego stalowych powłok: płaszczy i den 10 zbiorników na paliwa płynne, o konstrukcji stalowo-żelbetowej, które były eksploatowane ponad 60 lat. W omawianym przypadku, po tak długim okresie eksploatacji zbiorników, których łączna objętość wynosiła 65300 m3, dopiero w trakcie remontu ujawniły się poważne uszkodzenia powłok stalowych dwóch zbiorników. W trakcie prowadzenia prac remontowych podczas oczyszczania zbiorników pojawiły się wcześniej nie rejestrowane ślady przecieków paliwa przez wżery przelotowe i nitowane połączenia pierścieni stalowych na dnie i ścianach zbiorników. Wpłynęło to na zmianę zakresu prac remontowych, których sposób wykonania omówiono w artykule.
