In this paper the fundamental problems related to the construction of central lubrication systems for application in machinery were presented. Rheological properties of lubrication greases were discussed with focus on the properties of the adjacent-to-wall layer. Based upon bibliographical references fundamental formulas for the determination of clearance and the necessary quantity of lubricant for optimum operation of sliding and rolling bearings were given. The results of testing and the recommended instructions for the determination of the resistance to grease flow in central lubrication systems were presented.
