In the paper attention is concentrated on methods determining hazards related to safe exploitation of medium and large capacity cylindrical vertical steel tanks situated on the ground, with a fixed and floating roof (V = 1000 - 50000 m sześc.). The hazards can be connected with various reasosns the main of which are: - extensive and non-uniform settlement of the tank, - corrosion and mechanical damages in the bottom, the shell, and the roof of the tank.
